Recently, after years of implementing separate efforts by its various companies, Ayala consolidated its numerous development projects into a cohesive program called Ayala Social Initiatives.
Ayala Social Initiatives is a concerted effort of the group's companies-including Ayala Land, Globe Telecom, BPI, IMI, Innove Communications, Isuzu, Honda, Ayala Malls, Community Innovations, and Ayala Foundation - to effect change in three critical development areas: entrepreneurship, environment, and education.
To help cultivate a Filipino entrepreneurial culture, the Ayala group nurtures numerous enterprising Filipinos-from merchants and service providers at its malls, to beneficiaries of the microfinance institutions that it supports, and provides them with the necessary skills and opportunities.
To conserve the environment, the Ayala group has instituted reforestation programs, clean air and clean water campaigns, and measures to conserve energy. In a target-specific campaign, it promotes effective solid waste management in its offices, buildings, business centers, commercial centers, residential subdivisions, and host communities.
To raise the quality of education of the Filipino youth, the Ayala group over the years has built schoolhouses, organized feeding programs, provided scholarships and innovative learning materials and trained student leaders.
The Ayala group is a key player-with Ayala Foundation as the lead convener and administrator-in a multi-sector initiative called Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students, which aims to provide Internet access and basic computer literacy programs for students in all the 6,374 public secondary schools in the Philippines. The group also works with other nongovernment organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), and Children's Hour in their advocacies.
Through Ayala Foundation and the individual subsidiaries, Ayala has gained unqualified recognition as a spearhead in the Philippine business sector in the exercise of corporate social responsibility.
